How this commission calculator works

For a flat plan, commission equals eligible sales multiplied by the commission rate. Tiered plans apply each rate only to the sales inside that tier, which is how most progressive sales plans work.

  • Add base pay and bonuses to see period earnings.
  • Add a recoverable draw to reduce commission paid.
  • Use a blank final tier for all remaining sales.

Flat vs. tiered commission

A flat plan pays one rate across every eligible dollar. A tiered plan pays different rates by band—often with higher rates once a rep crosses a quota. If your plan applies one rate to all sales after a threshold, use the tiered calculator as an estimate and check the plan language.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate 10% commission?

Multiply eligible sales by 0.10. For example, $12,000 in eligible sales at 10% earns $1,200 before any draw, bonus, or base pay.

What is an effective commission rate?

It is total earned commission divided by eligible sales. In a tiered plan, it is often different from the highest advertised tier rate.

Does this calculate taxes on commission?

No. Commission is compensation, but payroll withholding varies by worker, location, payroll setup, and Form W-4. This tool focuses on gross compensation.
